Today hundreds of people from the community took part in the Three Kings Celebration. We had three distinguished visitors, the 3 Kings who brought presents to the children. We also had the traditional Three King cake. Dozens of children received gifts and had a great time. The tradition in Latin America is that the Three Kings bring presents to the Children on the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. Every cake has little figurines (symbolizing baby Jesus) hidden inside. If someone cuts a piece of cake and "gets the baby", that person becomes the "godparent" of baby Jesus. Thus, the godparent is obliged to bring Tamales on the feast of the Presentation of the Lord. We will have tamales for free on Sunday February 3rd, after the 2:00pm Mass.
